Ok here we go,
I just got a new ASUS motherboard, AMD 64 3200, and ATi X1600 Pro to upgrade an old AMD XP machine.
I am using the hard drives, DVD drives, floppy drive, sound card, and RAM from my old machine. The old system was Foxcon motherboard with an AMD XP 2000 and ATi 9600.
I switched out the motherboard, CPU, and video card, and decided to do a re-insall of Windows because the chipsets are completly different.
Everything was working great until it gets to the installing devices part, were it hangs at 34 Minutes remaining.
I have disabled every peice of on board hardware (USB, Sound, LAN, Parralel, COM) and removed the sound card and floppy drive and even put in a different PCI video card. This did not help at all. I even tried a different mouse and keyboard.
I have looked through the logs and don't see were it is hanging.
Does anybody have any idea what I can do, I really REALLY don't want to do a clean install.
Thank you!
James

"I really REALLY don't want to do a clean install."
It looks to me that a clean install may be your only choice. It's gotta be the different MB thats causing the hang.

Ok, I tried a different DVD drive and it did not help. I am now trying to finish the re-install with the old hard drive back in the old computer, if that works I will just switch back and hope Windows doesn't freak out with all of the device changes.

Several possible solution...
1. Windows XP installation setup will stop respoding with 34 minutes remaining if there is a hardware-related issue. (CLICK ME) for more info.
2. Windows XP SP1 installation will stop responding with about 34 minutes rmaining when a USB mouse or USB keyboard is attached to the system during GUI-mode setup. (CLICK ME) for more info.
3. If neither of the above applies to you, this thread may help.
