Reply: (edit)To change the icon for a particular file type, open up My Computer and choose Tools -> Folder Options... from the menu. Click on the File Types tab and locate the file type you wish to edit. Click on the Advanced button. On the Edit File Type dialog, Click the Change Icon... button. In the Change Icon dialog, click the Browse... button and locate the EXE file that you are using to open the image file. This should give you some icons to choose from, including the one you had before.

Reply: (edit)it didnt work...because i downloaded Aston Shell..and shell for windows..it made windows think that all the icons where in it's folders..so windows looks there for the icons..but i unintalled it..yea..and now...the icon itself is deleted..i tried to find the code to recreate the icon..but couldnt find it...a lot of my other icons are missing also..like my winamp and winrar..but i managed to fix them myself through the options from the program..but the thing with Windows picture and fax viewer is that...it has no option..or at least i dont think so...

Reply: (edit)Goto http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp and download the tweak ui powertoy. After you've installed it launch it and click repair at the bottom left hand corner. On the right hand side make sure "Rebuild icons" is seleted and click "Repair now" If this doesn't help post back, I have a couple more ideas. Hope this helps, Sandman

Reply: (edit)Sorry about the desktop icons :( but THIS can be fixed LOL. Goto the folders options as some have already said and find the the formats your wanting to fix. Let's say your fixing jpegs, go down the list and find jpeg and click it. If your lucky the bottom button will say "Restore" instead of "Advanced" if so click restore and it should be set back to the default. If not and the Advanced button is still there click it instead. In the middle of the window that opens there will be a couple of options. Select "open" and click the edit button. In the second line of the new window that opens will say "Application used to perform action:" under that line paste "rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\shimgvw.dll,ImageView_Fullscreen %1" (no quotes) That will make Windows picture and fax viewer open jpegs. To get the old icons back (if the above didn't correct them) Reselect the format and click the Advanced button again. Click the chage icon button and paste "shimgvw.dll" under where it say "Look for icons in this file" and hit enter and pick the icon. Post back if this doesn't work or if I need to explain better. Reply: (edit)For notepad you would use "%SystemRoot%\system32\notepad.exe" instead of shimgvw.dll. Sorry I don't know of any sites that list Windows icons locations. But most of the standard Windows icons are in shell32.dll (238 of them). If you like the older Windows Media player icons their in quartz.dll. The majority of the time the icon will be in the programs exe file, like with notepad. Glad I could help, Sandman
