Seem to be having a problem booting Windows.

The other day, I started my PC up as normal, and all of a sudden I was given an error message ''DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER'' and will not work, unless I put a bootable floppy in, which I downloaded from www.bootdisk.com - I insert the floppy and press enter, and windows loads fine!

I have done chkdsk /r in windows recovery console, and changed the boot order round to all different positions. Still no look.

I have a serial ATA western digital hard disk, with a K8N-Neo2FIR MSI board.
The drive is detected fine in the BIOS, it just looks like for some reason windows has tried to find a boot.ini on the hard disk, and not found it for some reason. I have also tried doing fixmbr in the recovery console, still no good.

It has happened before a few times, a while back - I just formatted the disk and installed windows again, but its just getting a bit rediculous now!

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Sam

go into recovery console and run the utilities fixmbr and fixboot. if this doesn't solve the issue then do a repair install [NOT a reinstall].

This can be a sign your drive's track0 is failing to retain the information written there. Could be drive replacement time.

Fix boot doesn't work, fixmbr does - but does not work. How do I do a repair install in it?

It won't help, the drive is hosed.

Run the WD diag tools available online and confirm it.

Just ran the Western Digital diagnostic tools, ran fine, but found bad sector errors which were sucessfully repaired, however, still says teh same error message... ''DISK BOOT FAILURE.... etc'' :-(

You get boot disk error when your hard drive isn't plugged in tight.Check connection at motherboard and at hard drive.Have you looked inside your computer lately?

Yes but it still works when I put the floppy in and boot off that, if it was slightly disconnected - it wouldn't work at all would it? and I have triple checked the connection, and changed the SATA port.

Any idea's?

jimi_1 seems to be right in response 4,if you don't have a bad connector cable from mother board to hard drive.
