I have an Amilo Pro V2010 laptop. Having tried to re-install windows xp I have a black screen with text - message: 'windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware problem. Could not read from the selected disk. Check boot path and disk hardware. Please check that the windows documentation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional information'
Of course there is no further information - you get 2 disks, the recovery and the drivers/utilities. - not much help. From the little that I have read this maybe an issue caused by MS not putting hd drivers on xp - but I really am in the dark here Any help would be appreciated.

'Having tried to re-install windows xp I have a black screen'.
Ok - why were you trying to reinstall - presumably a problem? Sounds like you have a hardware issue - probably the hard drive. I'd remove the hard drive and connect it to laptop (if its IDE, you'll need an adapter to do this - they cost c. £5 here in UK, if its SATA you'll need a machine with SATA support or a SATA to IDE adaptor. Once connected, run the drive manufacturer's diagnostic (usually available from their website) on it. If ok (or it fixes problems), run chkdsk /f on it. If this fixes problems, put it back and try install again.
