Hello,

I have a 3 year old who got ahold of my computer and went madly clicking-away who managed to change my startup settings during the process.

When I turn on my computer, I go to a blue-screen and windows does 'not' automatically load. The blue screen has two options.

Press F1 for settings
Press F10 for system recovery

When I go into startup, and then press return to exit without changing anything, then windows loads and everything works fine. I tried pressing F5 to restore defaults, but it didnt solve my startup problems. I still go to the blue screen on startup. Once windows finally boots, everything works fine, but starting at the blue page is driving me nuts!!!

How can I change my settings so windows will start immediately upon startup??? What is this blue STARTUP, SYSTEM RECOVERY page??

One more note.........

I dont need to enter into setup as described above. The blue screen stays on for about 30 seconds, then windows finally loads.

Anyone know what's going on??

Thanks,

Paul

First order of business is to completely forgive the 3-year-old, no matter what the consequences of his/her delightful and innocent excursion into the world of computers.

Done that?

Using Startup and Recovery in System in Control Panel, you can configure Windows to do the following when a severe error (called a Stop error or Fatal system error) occurs:

Write an event to the system log.

Alert administrators.

Dump system memory to a file that advanced users can use for debugging.

Automatically restart the computer.

The dump of system memory to a log file can be valuable for debugging the cause of the Stop error. If you contact your technical support representatives about the error, they might ask for the log file. Note that Windows writes the log file to the same file name (Memory.dmp, by default) each time a Stop error occurs.

Follow these specific steps:

START>>CONTROL PANEL>>PERFORMANCE & MAINTENANCE>>SYSTEM>>ADVANCED (TAB)>>Find the button combination that brings you back to the preferred startup sequence.

Melinda,

I coudnt follow the chain as you printed it, and I followed this route.

Control panel>system>advanced>startup and recovery settings.

when I got there, it shows the default operating system listed as Windows XP Home edition.

Maybe Im doing something wrong, and Im not at the correct place. When I went to the control panel, there was no performance and maintenance icon to click.

Im still lost.....
