This isn't a "hardcore" computer question but it's something that is really frustrating me. I've been trying to get Windows Movie Maker 2.1 but Windows doesn't offer a direct link; it says the new Movie Maker is in the updates. I have all the updates installed but still only Movie Maker 1.

So I went to Windows website and followed a troubleshooting thing for people who had service pack 2 but WMM wouldn't upgrade. I followed the directions exactly and now not only do I not have WMM2.1 but now WMM1 won't work. Everytime I open it, I get an error report thingy:

EventType : BEX P1 : moviemk.exe P2 : 2.0.3312.0 P3 : 3e038613
P4 : comctl32.dll P5 : 6.0.2900.2180 P6 : 4110968c P7 : 0006c82c
P8 : c0000409 P9 : 00000000

C:\DOCUME~1\ktm\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER4a75.dir00\moviemk.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\Ktm\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER4a75.dir00\appcompat.txt

I tried to talk to live support on Windows' website but apparently my copy of Windows doesn't get support anymore.

Is there anyway to a) get regular Windows Movie Maker 1 to work again and possibly b) install Windows Movie Maker 2.1?!

Thanks.

Maybe there's something in the way WMM communicates with MS whenever you use it. Read this privacy statement.

Windows Movie Maker 1 used to work just fine for me. I'm not sure what MS taking information from me would have to do with it. It just stopped working after I tried to force the update since it wouldn't update on its own.

Grasshopper, thanks, that worked except I don't have my Windows CD so I can't finish the installation. :/

Microsoft can be so annoying.
