When i log on to the internet I get a Windows Messenger pop-up that I cannot keep from reappearing several times while i'm on the internet. It is requesting me to upgrade Windows Messenger. I have never used Windows Messenger. There is no cancel, X, or ability to right click and delete with this pop-up. I can press no but it just keeps reappearing. Am I forever stuck with this annoying pop-up?.... Thanks, Jeff

Try this;

1. ensure Messenger is not running in the background "DO END TASK procedure"
2. RUN MSCONFIG command,
under STARTUP, un-check "msmsgs" box.
3. run windows explorer, and then rename the Messenger program directory "C:\Program Files\Messenger_del"
4. restart PC.

Good Luck!

If you followed all the steps there is no way for the servicee to re-enable itself on its own. If you stopped the service first then choose disabled and hit apply then ok it will not re-enable itself. If it did, you most likely have other problems.

KTTD

P.S I've done it plenty of times on clients systems and it has never, ever re-enabled itself.

Kevin

I think He is talking about the chat program windows messanger...not messanger service.

Paljeff

Double click the green man at task bar
click tools
click options
click general
uncheck "automatically start windows messanger....."
ok
reboot
The program is still there but it shouldn't start.
Hope that helps

First of all thanx to all for taking the time to reply with suggestions...to KTTD, I did follow all the steps...messenger continues to be listed as disabled but i still got the Windows Messenger pop-up. It's no lie...to Blender followed your advice but pop-up still appeared. It's like a mosquito that will keep buzzing and you can never get rid of it... Finally I have downloaded Kill The Messenger even though I was hoping not to have download a program to get rid of this pop-up. Now the good news is it did not appear when I rebooted my computer or when I logged on to the internet. I'm being cautious... you know how mosquitoes can lie low and then start their buzzing again...but maybe that has finally gotten rid of this pop-up. (BTW I think it sucks that a pop-up like this can get into computer systems). If it works ongoing, I will sing the praises of Kill The Messenger although I wonder if it's going to prevent something I may want to do in the future on the computer. Thanks all again!!!

This is written one day later from above post....Pop-up has reappeared...INCREDIBLE!...So Kill The Messenger was only effective for a few log ins on the computer before Windows Messenger pop-up reappeared....I guess no one has a permanent solution to get rid of this amazingly annoying pop-up or do you have to keep downloading Kill The Messenger everytime it appears???
