hi there,
this might well be the smallest of problems for you guys, but I can't seem to get rid of that pest "windows mesenger", I've tryed msconfig, unticked it's box in the starup tab, but although it seemed to be gone, once I reboot, it's back again...

TRY
* Start | Run (type) "services.msc" (no quotes)
* Scroll down to "Messenger", Right-click and select: Properties
* Click the drop-down arrow for "Startup type"
* Select: Manual, click Apply/Ok and restart.

OOPS --- That is not related to Windows Messenger.

If you mean the chat program. Turn it off by changing the setting for start up under Tools->Options.

If you mean a pop-up window with that name on the title bar, get Service Pack 2.

XP SP2 does not remove Windows Messenger. It merely disable it by default.

As always you're correct XpUser.
However I got the impression the OP wanted to get rid of the function of "that pest windows messenger", not it's existence :)

hi,
I never use the blasted thing, it's on my task bar everytime I boot, that means it's using memory that I do not want it using, that means it's using me. I do already have SP2 and have updated. Response No. 6 seems a bit severe, that's apart from the fact that I don't know what it is supposed to do. As far as it goes, I would prefer it complete deletion from MY computer, that said, If I don't see it loading into task bar I'll be content.
Thanks agaain all...
