To uninstall, start>run and type in:

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Type it all in as one line, with a single space between '..LaunchINFSection' and '%windir%...'

As far as I know, if you uninstall it, alot of the options available in the messenger service wont work, its best to leave it installed but uncheck it in your startup.
Start>run>msconfig>msmsgs is what it will be, now if you leave that installed, the 6.2 version will have the same name but be in caps. Either way you dont need it to start when the system starts.

Windows Messenger has nothing whatsoever to do with Messenger Service. Windows Messenger is a stripped down version of MSN Messenger.
Messenger Service is a service that lets a network administrator send messages to one or more computers in a network. It has been abused to send commercial ads to the users IP and could often be turned off to prevent abuse, since most users don't need it anyway.

WindowsComponents and everything is working fine.

Rory If your only problem is stopping Windows Messenger from starting when you start Outlook Express then do the following. Start OE. Click on Tools > Options. On the first page untick the box that says "Automatically log onto Windows Messenger". Windows Messenger will not start when OE starts.

Thank you for all your info. I used the run command and all seems to be saved. Whether or not it is running. Just seeing that icon when running such a sloww computer is fair raising!

Nigel, a little too much info dude.

Thanks again
