File Version is 10.0.0.3646
Under the Burn tab in my Windows Media Player,I get the message "No CD or DVD burner has been detected. Press F5 to refresh the Player."

F5 does nothing. I've made sure in the properties on my cd-burner recording is enabled. I'm able to burn to cd's with other programs. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

just to confirm that you are using new CD and not one that has been previously burned and/or closed?

Additionally this link suggests that if XP's CD Burning functionality is corrupted it can cause this symptom:

To verify this you can always just right-click a file and try to "send to CD" and burn... just to see if XP's built-in burning functionality has indeed been corrupted.

Hope that Helps!

Question for Anyone (since I am not completely familiar with using wmp for burning) -

Does wmp need a codec installed to do this? or should it be able to burn natively in XP?

In other words is it possible to have a 3rd party burning software installed, but NOT have the proper codec/burning_functionality installed for wmp?

Maybe someone more experienced with that can offer some advice there as well.

Thanks.

You most likely disabled it somewhere along the line.

Here is how you can enable it again:

[Start] [Run] [Regedit]

Registry Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer
Modify/Create the Value Name [NoCDBurning] according to the Value Data listed below.
Data Type: REG_DWORD [Dword Value] // Value Name: NoCDBurning
Value Data: [0 - Enable Burning / 1 - Disable Burning]
Exit Registry and Reboot

Also this:

[Start] [Run] [Regedit]
Registry Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
Modify/Create the Value Name [NoCDBurning] according to the Value Data listed below.
Data Type: REG_DWORD [Dword Value] // Value Name: NoCDBurning
Value Data: [0 - Enable Burning / 1 - Disable Burning]
Exit Registry and Reboot
