windows media player wont read disc

Specs: Windows XP
What can I say. I insert disc in the drawer but media player doesnt read it .... why and can it be fixed and HOW ... help definitely required.

Insert the cd, go to windows explorer, click on your cd drive & note the format of whatever is on the disk.
Example MP3, cda & so on.

Now go onto Media Player options / Associations & make sure the format is ticked.

I do not have Media Player installed or know your version, so that is only a rough guide.

Hi John. I cant do as you suggested (although I tried) the cd player isnt reading anything.

Uncable the cd player & boot, after the comp has finshed booting, shut it down.

Recable the cd player & boot.

If it is not working, shut down & try ( borrow ) another player.

maybe try VLC player and see if that works

also check the disc in another player to see if it actually works or not
