I have several Dell systems but the one in question is a L800R with a recently clean installed version of XP Pro. I reloaded all my applications and then checked previews to some movies with Windows Media Player so I know it worked at that time.About a week later I went to Blk. Vipers site and did the "safe" changes to my services. Also I download XP Powertoys TweakUI. I did these same changes to my 8100 laptop and my custom built computer a few days prior to tweaking my L800R. Then I put an ATI 7500 video/tv card in my L800R. Now my WMP won't play a video file on or offline. The video file it won't play is a (wmv) video file. I have no Idea what caused this. Can anyone help me with this little problem? Thanks

Try opening Wmp6.4 its in
C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\mplayer2.exe and see if it will play. If it plays there you know its not a codec problem. If it won't play in 6.4 either you can try getting Nimo Codec Pack from

sandman, I really appreciate you helping me with this problem I'm having.
I went to 6.4 like you said and WMP played the (wmv's) from there.
Like you said, I guess its not the codec's. Do you have any other suggestions for me.
Thank you very much for your time. Regards

Make sure Wmp8 is set to play wmv files, goto tools>options and click the file types tab. Make sure "Windows Media audio/video file" is checked. If wmp8 opens when you try to open the wmv file this is already set, but it couldn't hurt to double check.
If you can't get it to open in wmp8 you can set it to always open with Wmp6.4 by going to view>options and click the formats tab and check "Windows Media audio/video file"
You can email me here and we can try to better figure out whats wrong.
