Ive had the same problem with my wmp for atleast a year and a half now. Whenever I try to open it with a file or just open the program itself it gives me that error and doesnt run. Ive tried uninstalling, reinstalling, and updating, and none of it worked for me. I gave up with it and have just used winamp for all my sound/video files.

Look in c:\program files\windows media player
Is wmplayer.exe in there? If not...
Have you recently had a CoolWebSearch infection and had to run cwshredder?
One of the varients of CWS trojan deleted the wmplayer.exe from the windows media player folder.
If that is the case you can re-install it here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/default.asp

Just re-install over the top.

I can't find the info on what varient of CWS did it because the site that gives all the info is currently down.

Dear Blender:

Thanks for the help.

I still have a wmplayer.exe file in my c:/program files/windows media player folder.

I went to the website you recommended and downloaded the MediaPlayer9 and reinstalled it.

I restarted my computer and I still get the same error message.

"An internal application error has occured"

What should I try next?

TIA!!
