All of a sudden the Windows media player started sounding erratic and popping. If I reboot I can play mp3 files ok for a while, but streaming audio makes a loud, repetitive poping noise. Could not see how to uninstall WMP 9 so I upgraded to 10 with no change. Rolled the 10 back to 9. No change.

I have musicmatch jukebox player and also Quicktime and they both play without a problem.

Any suggestions as to what I can try?

I updated to WMP 10 and made sure codec is ok. Still does not work right. Plays mp3 files on my pc ok. Streaming files and cd has a loud poping noise. Other playes work ok. But, if I do speaker test, I get the poping noise. This would make one think it is hardware, but how would you explaine it only effects the Windows media playr. This one has really got me stumped.

Yes, I did update to the latest driver and it made no difference. There is a big clue here though, for someone who knows their stuff. I have determined the following:

plays wav files
plays midi file
plays dvds without a problem
wmv files from internet, video is ok, sound bad.
mp3 files do not play. They are choppy and loud popping noise.
