Windows media player distorts sound

I have downloaded the latest version, but music still sounds distorted. I get much better quality playback through Dell media. Can I tweak anything in the wmp to improve the sound?? Thanks

not sure. Are you streaming or listening to CDs? If your streaming look for a higher bit rate, if your downloading, make sure the bit rate is high there as well. If it is CDs try tweaking the Volume Control. What does it sound like, chimey?
