When I try to start windows media player 11 for XP, nothing happens. There is a hourglass for a couple seconds, and then it goes away and nothing happens. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing it, but it doesn't work. Even the older version when its uninstalled doesn't work and shows an error message. Anyone have a solution?

See event viewer first.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10
