Comment:

WIndows media player will play WMV files but when I try and play a DVD film I get an unspecific error message. I allowed the errror report to report back to base then half an hour later I received an update - presumably prompted by the sent message. After installing this update I still get the same problem. Any ideas please?

wmp CANNOT play dvds in XP without having a proprietary codec installed (usually thru a 3rd party dvd player)

VLC is indeed the only free media player capable to play dvd without external codecs (vive la france :-).
