Comment:

I've been searching for several hours to solve this problem and I've tried searching the Computing.net archives for my specific issue. I've found some similar, none are an exact match. Microsoft has not been very helpful either. (big surprize)

When I open Windows Media Player, I get an error box that says:

Windows Media Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. You can see the entire error at this link:

Some issues:
I can play the Windows Media Player as long as I don't click any of the "Send" or "Don't Send" boxes ... I just have to slide the box out of view and everything appears to work fine.

This problem happened on both Windows Media Player 10 & 11.

Because of the error message in Windows Media Player 10, I removed 10 and fresh installed 11 with the same error message results.

One of the Windows Media Player trouble shoot recommendations was to update the bios. I've done that. I still get the error message results.

I've updated the Windows Updates. I still get the error message.

Y'all got any suggestions? You've helped me in the past and I'm gonna put my troubles in your hands again. Thanks in advance.

I'll resist the obvious "Doctor, it hurts when I do this..." :)

I found a few articles referencing that error on the MSKB. I then ran the mod version number, and this came up:

Since the problem is happening when you click "Send" perhaps it's related to Office if you have that installed and are using Outlook for email.

I do have Office installed, but do not use Outlook or Outlook Express on this laptop. I believe the words "Send" and "Don't Send" sent you down the wrong trail.

The words "Send" and "Don't Send" are questions whether to inform Microsoft of the error issue, supposedly so they could fix the error or post a bulletin. I've clicked "Send" so many times, I'd think I'd have my own library of solutions at MS.

This is a specific issue with Media Player only.

I appreciate the search that you did.

Look in the event viewer.

I've looked in the Event Viewer and see that I am getting (what I assume) are Application Errors everytime I open Windows Media Player and click "Send" or "Don't Send."

Here are a few screen caps of the event viewer, error properties and 2 event viewer details (one is with info at the top of the box and the lower one is info scrolled about half way down. there was not much else to report at the end of the view box.)

Any ideas on how to fix the application errors? Just to report, this appears to be the only program or application that has errors in the computer - this is usually a pretty stable computer.

Sorry. I misread. When exactly did the problem start? Are you running SP2?

Yes, I'm running XP, Media Center Edition 2002 with SP2. I think it's always done this, as best as I can remember.

I think it'll be 2 years old in May.

I'm finally sick of it.
