Comment:

My Compaq SR2050NX needs a new Hard Drive. I have a new Hard Drive and a new Version of XP Pro. Can I install that, or does it have to have MS Media Center again, which I don't need, because of the BIOS Settings? I also do not have the Compaq Restore CDs.

You can install XP on the new drive. After the install, you'll need to install the chipset drivers etc. You can get them here.

The above response is correct. That said, what do you mean by this?

"which I don't need, because of the BIOS Settings"?

I was told, that the BIOS let you install only what was installed when it left the factory, unless you have the Restore CDs which I don't have.

The BIOS has absolutely NOTHING to do with what OS you can install on a computer.

Now, you may have a restore partition on the computer that can be used to place the computer back to the factory state.

What type of WinXP disk do you have? A full version, or a OEM version (restore disk)? If a full version do you have an installation key?

Then you should be good to go. I advise you to get all the drivers prior to formatting the drive and burn them to CDR.
