windows live search is some how overriding my google search. I cannot locate this as a download or IE extension or anything.
My ISP uses Google same as me. was this some hidden update that was planted as a download that I am not aware of or can find?

Where did this thing come from and where is it located so that i can remove it!

I think it's uninstallible via Add/Remove Programs. Have you look there?

As to the question Where the heck it came from I think from some software bundled with some so-called goodies, no?

running IE7 ? at the top right of IE there is a search field. just to the right of that there is a magnifying glass, then to the right of that a down arrow. click the down arrow.......a menu pops up, choose Change Search Defaults. Then click on Google as yer search Provider to highlight it, then click Set Default. Click OK.

If you run IE6.x, try this reg file;
(Copy everything ~between~ the double-lines, including the empty line at the end)

===========================================
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"Search Page"="http://www.google.com"
"Search Bar"="http://www.google.com/ie"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL]
""="http://www.google.com/keyword/%s"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search]
"SearchAssistant"="http://www.google.com/ie"

=============================================

Save it as google.reg. Right-Click on it and choose MERGE. Confirm.

CAVEAT: Create a new Restore Point before running, just in case your machine is weird.

XpUser...
I had tried every search and options for locating this thing you can imagine and it never came up in any search at all....not even in the registry which was surprising. Nor with Hijackthis. I later found it as in the ignore options of HJT

Jackdog....

I do not run IE7 and have no plans on doing so in any future.

Dan Penny.....

It was not found in my registry as you have indicated...all were set to google all ready...but was a default link through M$ office as a redirect and for some reason it had been concealed in HJT as added to the ignore list

Thanks for all your help guys!
