I've just upgraded to SP2 (which itself has taken a whole day due to problem after problem), and have now installed Windows Live Mail. Prior to this I used outlook express for archiving emails from my hotmail account, and to back these up would simply copy the whole store folder (one with the *.dbx files).
However, with WLM I see this folder is huge already (about 48MB) compared to the 2-3MB of outlook express. Now, my question is, to backup my emails can I just copy this store folder like in OE? Then in the case of a system failure and needing to reinstall could I just copy the store folder back in?
Or do I need to use the export feature to make a copy of all my stored folders to a temporary location then ensure this is included in the backup? Seems like a lot of work to do each time I run the backup.
A google search shows that you can drag and drop emails, but that only works with one folder at a time (I have many subfolders). It also brings up links to programs you can buy (which I certainly don't want to do), as well as mentioning the export feature.
So basically, is it safe to simply copy the store folder for WLM then copy it back in case of a reinstall, or do I need to do an export before running my weekly backup?
Thanks in advance

I did not know that, but it seems that they are only postponing it as opposed to keeping it alive forever..
Anyway I like some of the features in the new WLM, so will probably stick to this for the time being. So what is the best way of making a backup then?
