Hi, i'm trying to install a particular game, but i can't get past the part where it trys to configure windows installer. the readme tells me to run InstMsiW.exe off the cd if this happens, but they forgot to include it. so, i've downloaded it off the microsoft website, but every time i try to run it i get the error "wrong OS or OS wrong version". i'm positive it's the file for nt\2000. what can i do?!

What game are you trying to insall?

That aside, is your comp locking up when trying to automatically configure then installer? Or does the program just sorta stall out and you have to end task it? The first thing I'd do is run chkdsk on your c drive and tell it to automatically fix errors. You'll have to reboot to do this. Once that's done, I would disable any running programs especially antivirus software, messenging programs like MSN or AIM. Then try installing again. If it STILL has problems then there maybe something else wrong, but without a specific error msg, or a BSOD, it's hard to tell what.

Windows XP contains Windows Installer 2.0 and therefore can't be installed or upgraded by this redistributable.

Sometimes a program, bad driver or conflicts that destroy or corrupt files will necessitate a reinstallation. WinXP will replace damaged or corrupted files without disturbing your data or registry settings so that these will still be available to you.

1. Boot from the WinXP CD
2. Select set up WinXP(ENTER)
3. Windows will find an existing copy of itself and give you the option to repair the highlighted installation
4. WinXP will copy the necessary files to your HD and install

• Reinstall XP and keep all your current installed applications and settings .
Go to the location of your source files {could be a copy of the I386 folder on your hard disk or the Windows XP CD} .
