Hi Firstly let me say sorry if I am not at the right place. My problem is that I have a slideshow to view on Microsoft Office Powerpoint Viewer 2003 but when I double click on it I see this message "Windows Installer - Preparing to install..." It just stops there with no further response, everytime I double click I got the same message. However, if I open Powerpoint by going through START-ALL PROGRAMES-POWEROINT VIEWER I am able to see the slide show with no problem at all. I am not using powerpoint viewer on a regular basis so to tell you when last it worked properly, might be two to three months ago. Can someone say why it is not opening by double click and why only through START ETC. By the way I used this programe before as mentioned and it worked fine. Brian
Look in Add/remove programs and see if there is a listing for Microsoft Office. If there is you MAY be able to repair Office from there.
Highlight MS Ofice and choose to remove. Hopefully you will get an option to repair as well as remove. Choose repair. You will be able to back out of removing it at any rate.
Something else you could try: Right click the file that you are having the problem with. Select 'Open with' and then 'Select Program'. Browse to the 'Powerpoint Viewer. Select it and also select 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file'.
I tried to remove Microsoft Office from Add/Remove and also to open the file by choosing the powerpoint programe as advised but i have this message appearing on both of the tries
"This patch could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer patch package"
This almost sounds like you have an update from MSoft that isn't installing properly. This could be due to an outdated installer file. Go to the link below and get installer 3.1. You may need to have Windows Genuine Advantage installed.
Well, I don't use powerpoint so I can't be of much further help except to suggest you just re-install MSoft Office or possibly just Powerpoint if you have a retail CD. You can perform a custom installation and untick all the other programs in the suite except powerpoint.
