I keep getting a window installer pop up everytime I try to open a program. It always asks for my office xp cd. I tried to remove office XP through add/remove and it would not let me so I manually removed all I could find (I am not comf. with registry and did not go there. Office xp still shows under add/remove even though I can't select change/remove but I have deleted all I can find of it and tried to reinstall (which fails) so now I get the windows installer popping up with every click to open any program. I needed office so I did install an old office 2000 which works ok. Any ideas please?!? I can't install or remove office xp and it isn't accessable to use. But because of something I did wrong I have the windows installer pop up everytime I try to open anything else on my computer. I tried microsoft solution for windows installer and that didn't work for this problem either. I prefer the office XP features so what I want to do is get office XP out and reinstall and hopefully make it so the windows installer pop up stops! Please someone help, I've been at this for 2 months and I don't want to have to reformat my drive for this one problem.

Thank you but that didn't work. The closest reference to my windows installer related to office xp was an Outlook installer. I took that out plus the whole office xp registry entry rebooted and it didn't work. One problem is I still have a file named msohev.dll-wordpad in my office xp and I can't delete it. I have the same file in my office 2000 so I'm not worried about losing anything but it won't delete.

Also try deleting it in Windows Safe-Mode.
No programs or drivers running.
Hold down F8 during boot.

deleted all in safe mode. Did not get pop up installer in safe mode when opening programs. Rebooted into normal mode and still had popups. (All deleted files were gone in the registry however all deleted files that I saved to desktop in case during safe mode were not present) Nothing I did seems to have affected anything.
