Subject: Windows installer 1601 Error
OS: xp
CPU/Ram: 2
Comment:

I just formated my computer, and now each time I want to install a program that uses Windows Installer, I get the following error code 1601 plus that comment: The Windows Installer service could not be accessed. Now I tried a lot of thing including re-installing windows installer, unreg and register it back, logging in as administrator.... Nothing works.

Does anybody knows what I can to do remedy the situation?

Thanks a lot

Never heard of this one before, but if you don't have too much installed already you may want to reformat and reinstall with a different xp cd

You're all gonna laugh at me.. If this problem happens to sombody else, read that, got it fixed.

It is as simple as disabling your firewall...lol By mistake, when the installer tried to communicate with the MSI server, it couldn't get through because I had denied the access before. So by disabling my firewall, everything went fine ;)

Super sweet newbie mistake ;)
