Subject: Windows install - can't find HDD

I'm trying to install windows on my computer (re-install) and it says when trying to do it that it cannot find a hard drive disk. This is exactly what it says

"Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.

Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is corrected. This may involve running an manufacturer-supplied diagnostic setup program. Setup cannot continue, to quit setup press F3."

But when we boot up the computer normally without trying to install windows it boots into windows right away. My HDD is connected VIA Sata, not sure if that will have any effect on it. Can anyone tell me what i need to do to continue installing windows?

press F6 during the setup when prompted for raid/sata drivers and have the driver disk ready to install manually

I trried that but when i put in the floppy and hit enter like it says, it tries to load (you can hear the floppy drive clicking) but then goes right back to the same screen telling me to put in the disk to drive A. Any reason it's doing this? The disk is the "Sata driver disk" so i am pretty sure it's the right one lol

the floppy drive may be bad. That is what happens when they go bad or the cable goes out.

Tom45, you did not say if your SATA drive is connected directly to you motherboard or an expansion card. if it's connected to the motherboard, make sure it's in the SATA 0 port and not SATA 1. This makes a difference when you try to do a fresh install but not for booting into windows.

If its connected to a SATA card then you need to go get a new floppy and load the SATA drivers.
