Subject: Windows ignores wireless connectionOS: XP ProCPU/Ram: 1.4 Mobile/512 Mb |
Comment: Hi, I have a wireless connection via a USB device. It works good: I can browse with Firefox, listen to strams with Realplayer... However, somehow Windows does not fully recognise this connection. For example, I cannot browse with Internet Explorer, or connect with Media Player. Every time I want to use this software Windows behaves as if there is no connection and tells me that this cannot be viewed while offline or the Window with my dial-up connections pops up asking me to connect. I aleady tried reinstalling the driver for the Wireless antenna, but it is still the same. How can I get Windows to recognise this connection properly??

Reply: (edit)Is there proxy settings or some other junk in IE (TOOLS>INTENET OPTIONS>CONNECTIONS)? Media Player pulls its internet settings from IE so any problem there will affect MP. The only thing to do with good advice is pass it on. It is never any use to oneself. - Oscar Wilde 1854 - 1900

Reply: (edit)In that screen I would tick 'Never Dial a Connection' then click the LAN SETTINGS button at the bottom, tick 'Automatically Detect Settings' and clear anything out of the 'Proxy Settings' area that may be there.
