windows hangs at XP logo screen

Hi All,
I had to shutdown my computer by holding down the power button last week. Since then, when I turn on my computer, it gets stuck at the windows logo screen and does not go past it. I have since tried to repair the windows and checked the hard drive for errors. No errors were reported. But the windows still does not load. I have also tried going into the safemode but after trying to load several files as it normally would, it hangs and does not go any further.
By the way, during booting into safe mode, it asks me if I want to load sptd.sys. I have the option to press 'ESC" or enter. If I press 'enter' , it would hang and resart after a while. It restarts upon pressing 'esc' key.

Thanks in advance for your help.

If the installation repair did not get you sorted out, you might have to do the inevitable: wipe & reload.

In the meantime, you could try this in the order listed:

-- Chkdsk /r

-- Chkdsk /p

-- Fixboot c:

Then reboot & see if that helps.

Thanks Sabertooth for your help.

Actually, I resolved the problem.

The real problem was sptd.sys which is part of the Daemons tools. I removed the sptd.sys by using windows repair option. Once that was removed, I was able to login to safemode and then remove the Daemon's tools folder. I am still looking into how I can completely remove the Daemon tools from my machine. But luckily I am able to login to my machine.
Thanks again for your help.
