Windows Freezing after compressing hard drive

Specs: Windows XP
Ok so i compressed both my hard drives on my computer. I was running windows 7 ultimate. After i compressed the HDD's i got the bootmgr is compressed error. so i used active boot and went in and uncompressed the HDD that had windows on it. It seemed to work fine at first but shortly afterward the computer would freeze up and i would have to the hold power button down to turn the computer off. I tried to run recovery with the windows 7 disc and used the bootrec.exe and fixmbr, it did not help me. so i backed up data from smaller hard drive and i reformatted it and put win xp pro on it. It is having the same problem with locking up as the other HDD. Why can i do to fix this??

Then the lockup may have nothing to do with compression?

yea but im having the exact same problem on both hard drives a 500gb and a 200gb. on 2 different OS's. I thought maybe the video card was overheating as its one without a fan that just uses a big heatsink but im running good temps on the card. the problems started right when i compressed both drives
