Windows Freezes randomly

O.K heres the problem, I recently upgraded all my hard ware to all that you see including a new Nvidia Geforce 8500GT 512Mb From PNY and for some reason windows XP and vista will just freeze. this happens at the most random times some times right in the middle of games or sometimes when just looking @ the desktop. any help would be extremely appricated. All drivers and DX is up to date

You wanna go ahead and perform a clean install of Windows XP SP2 and see if it isn't just the current installation of the OS causing the issue. If it still happens after performing clean install then begin to troubleshoot the hardware. Always make backup copies of your documents, saved games, music, pictures, etc. to writable media like CD-R & DVD-R/RW and/or onto an existing partition or separate HDD.

you could boot from a linux live cd, run that for a few hours and see if it freezes. With 4 gb of ram, you can run most distros from the ram.

Sounds like Bad RAM. Download Memtest86, burn it to a CD or DVD and boot the disc. Let it scan around 13-20 hours, longer is better.
