My windows Xp freezes like every 5 seconds
for a split second. You can't notice if it you're just typing but if you drag a window aroudn the screen you can notice it freezes. And in counter-strike you walk and it just freezes every 5 seconds for a second and it's like it skips. Ive run ad-aware, Spy bot, house trend, went through add or remove and got rid of crap and went throuhg my process tree and looked up everything and nothing i can find gets rid of it. Anyone have any help?

Unless it is overheating ( is it hot where you are? ) I suspect you are infected.

Use HiJackThis to track down or check for possible infections. Read this link 1st, it has step by step.
http://www.wilderssecurity.com/show...
Important: Create a specific folder on your hard drive called HijackThis to keep its backups.
You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HijackThis. Download and unzip HijackThis.exe into this folder.

If possible run HJT in Normal mode ( not Safe ) with all your normal startup's working.

I have exactly the same problem on my Toshiba laptop. I'm using this laptop strictly for my work(I'm a programmer) so there is no ad-aware kind of stuff.

I have also gone through process tree several times, but found no suspicious process.

I neither think my laptop is infected nor there is something wrong with the hardware.

If it is still as clean as you think it is...try updating the graphics driver...it is bes to download it to the desktop or someother place that you can easily locate it. Then look for the drivers in the add/remove of the control panel and remove them and reboot then install the updated drivers.

buta, being a programmer doesn't exempt you from being infected with malware/spyware/adware or even a worm, trojan or virus for that matter!

Even if you think your system is clean, run the programs to confirm it. Once you have a known clean system and it is still misbehaving then it is a driver problem or hardware problem. This is where the detective work starts. You are going to have to start eliminating components, one at a time. It will take a while cause you have to prove the machine after every change. You might want to start with updating your peripheral drivers first. Good luck and post back with your results.

I have actually reinstalled windows 2 times due to this problem in the past, but after 3 to 4 month, I get the same problem again with this laptop.

I also have PC technician at the company I work for to check spyware/malware periodically so I am almost sure that my Toshiba laptop is free from those.

No it isn't over heating. What i've realized
is when i first start STEAM (counter-strike)
it does it. And as soon as i close it.. it stops basically. And if i run steam for awhile i think it stops after awhile until
i go play again. I reinstalled the display drivers so that isn't it, i think. I don't know what else it could be? the computer never did this before so i don't think it would be memory issues unless something is taking up alot more now then it was.

That's where Task Manager or Process Manager ( as mentioned earlier ) come in & tell you what is gobbling up your cpu cycles.

Prevent Tasks From Consuming All Your CPU
Simply change the priority this process has by doing the following:
1. Start > Run, copy & paste > taskmgr < & hit Enter or Ctrl+Alt+Del & if that doesn't work, try Ctrl+Shift+Esc and see if Task Manager comes up.
2. Select Processes
3. Right click on the greedy process
4. Set Priority to BelowNormal or Low

Disable Indexing Services
http://www.tweakxp.com/article37006...
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/Suppo...
Indexing services is a small program that hogs HUGE amounts of RAM and can often make a computer endlessly loud and noisy. This system process indexing and updates lists of the files on your system, so you can search for them quickly, but it's completely unnecessary.
To disable it, go to the Control Panel and click Add or Remove Programs. Click the Add/Remove Window Components. Simply untick the Indexing services and click Next!
Or,
Go into "My Computer", right click on all your hard drive partitions one at a time, left click "Properties". Uncheck "Allow Indexing Service to index this disk for fast file searching". Select "Apply changes to subfolders and files". If any files can not be updated select "Ignore All".
