Comment:

i just upgraded from ME to XP and every few minutes i keep getting a "Windows File Protection" box popping up.

the box says "Files required by Windows to run properly have been replaced by unrecognized versions. Windows must restore the original versions of these files. Insert your Windoes XP Professional CD-ROM now."

if i put in the cd and then remove it hours after i get the popup again. is there any way to make this stop? it did it the last time i upgraded as well but never any of the times before.

You just need to install sp1 service pack and it will go away.

Choose the automatic update new files and make sure you select to archive them in case you want to remove them.

I just did the above about a week ago on my other system which I also upgraded from me with the same error you mentioned.

That solved my problem.

Good luck
