Comment:

Had XP loaded over 98 for six weeks and failed:
message: windows file protection
the files that are required for windows to run properly
have been replaced by unrecognized version,
to maintain system stability windows must reload
the original version of the files.

ps. I have tried reloading XP same error.
Any help!

one of several possibilities, one of your programs is overwriting protected files
this program would be one that updates via the web.or you have a virus, so run sfc /scannow to replace the changed files and find the program that is changing the windows files and remove it. also run full virus scan, and if need be download a 2nd virus checker and run another scan
