When I start Windows, Explorer is very slow. To get to a usable state after I see the Icons, it takes about 3:00 for the taskbar to function. How can I speed up explorer? I have already ran Defrag, compressed the drive, and ran BootVis.exe. It helped with preformance, but explorer is still very slow to launch. How can I speed up the launch time? Here is my basic system configuration:

Pentium 1 167.1Mhz Socket 7
66Mhz FSB
256 MB RAM
SB 16 PCI sound card
S3 Trio64V2 intigrated video card
250w ATX power supply
6.34 GB 5400 RPM HDD on IDE0 as master
1.50 GB 5400 RPM HDD on IDE0 as slave
12x10x40 CDRW on IDE1 as master

Except for Explorer being slow, everyting is to my satisfaction. Everyting is fine once everything is booted. How can I speed up the launch process? Thank you.

If you have any mapped drives delete them all and recreate only those that are valid. All it takes is one invalid drive mapping to turn explorer into a snail. You should also check all of the shortcuts in the Start Menu to make sure all of the .exe they point to exist and that they don't point to drive letters that don't exist.

I found 10 invalid shortcuts on the start menu. I have deleted thtm, and hopefully this will speed up explorer some. I dont have any mapped drives, what else could be causing the low responce of explorer? This managed to shave 00:30 off of bootup time. My goal is go get it to under a minute for all boot processes.
