For the last couple days whenever I turn on my computer, a windows explorer window
opens up to C:\Program Files\Common. Inside this folder is another folder called
"Bin" and it has some files in it. I have looked in my Start menu "StartUp" folder,
and there is nothing in it that would cause this.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get rid of this annoyance? I saw
on a newsgroup where one person suggested renaming the folder, then restarting, and
then naming the folder back. I tryed this, and after I renamed the file and restarted, the explorer window did not come up. But then when I named the folder back to it's original name and restarted again, the explorer window came up again. My guess is it wouldn't be a good idea to rename the folder and just leave it that way, right?

I would prefer to not edit the registry, as I have never done so before, and
I'm not sure how to do it...most likely I would mess something up if I tryed.

Please give me all your suggestions, this is something I would really like to get
rid of! I don't check my email, so please just reply here.
Thanks!!!!!

It could be spyware, a worm, a trojan, or a virus. Get Adaware at Lavasoft.com, Spybot Search and Destroy at this link:

and run you antivirus software (you DO have it don't you?) to scan for viruses. Be sure all these programs are up to date. After doing all this, get Spywareblaster which allegedly will keep spyware out of your computer from now on. Don't know right now where you get it, but do a google search. It's JavaCool software.

I tryed all that last night, and it didn't help. Yes, I do have Norton Anti-Virus, and I ran all the scans and they all came back fine. I have Adaware, and I ran that, and it got rid of all the spyware, but that still doesn't fix my problem. The explorer window is still coming up everytime I startup my computer....

It's fixed! The explorer window is not coming up anymore! I'm so glad! For anyone who may be having the same problem, here is how I fixed it.

I went into regedit, and looked in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
There was a value pointing to somthing in c:\program files\common files\ that was not enclosed in quotes (" "), so I just enclosed it in quotes, and now the explorer window does not come up when I startup!
