Windows Explorer / My Computer

Specs: Windows XP
This just started happening on my XP SP3 machine.

When I open My Computer or Windows Explorer, right click and select New.....there is a delay of up to two minutes before the "New" menu items appear. The delay does not occur if I select any other item in the menu. Any ideas for a fix?

How long ago did you install XP SP3? If the problems appeared immediately after you upgraded Windows XP to SP3, uninstall SP3 via Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

I've had SP3 on this machine for several months. I just noticed that I encounter the same issue when I right click from my Desktop and select New.

How much RAM memory do you have ???

Most Virus and Spyware scans are likely to work better in Windows Safe-Mode.

Try System Restore to a date when all was good.
Start >All Programs >Accessories >System Tools

Using System Restore too many times can cause
more harm than good. After doing a restore
that does not fix a problem, then UNDO the
Restoration, and try another restore point, or
just do the UNDO.
