My windows explorer keeps crashing everytime i open a window. This is really annoying now, as my pc is basically unusable now.

I have run all my virus/spyware programs. I have the all clear. I've done a restore, but that hasn't worked. I've tried to boot to last good configuration, but that thasn't worked either. I would like to avoid a fresh install, but it seems this is my way out.
can I try anything else before i got to this extreme?

Many thanks.

Hi, This seems wierd if you have the all clear on your virus scanners, to me its seems like youve have got a brower hijacker. But this maybe just a bug in windows, what i would try first is to download the service pack 2 and try it as service pack to fixes alot of bugs.
Thanks

Matt

My suggestion would be to do a 'Repair' install.

I wish I could install sp2, but it makes my pc useless, as much of my hardware doesn't work in sp2, especially bluetooth grr. I made a post asking how to change properties of my docs, because it is in there that I must transfer data from, but I can't. I think I can transfer if I don't show graphics, but can't change the setting quick enough, so maybe regedit could help me lol.

Hi Matt, DjPod, ham30, hi everyone

Since you don't want to install SP2 for valid reasons, have you instead of installing SP2 reinstalled SP1?

It might fix the crashing Windows Explorer, downside could be that you may have to download and install the hotfixes etc. that were released after SP1 again. On the other hand if you would eventually go for the extreme, fresh install, you would also have to download and install the SP and hotfixes etc. again.
