Hello,I was infected with a virus..received while back-uping another pc's hard disk. The antivirus kaspersky removed the windows explorer. I have tried:
-sfc /scannow
-system restore
-repair booting with the XP cd
-copy windows explorer from XP cd
No result. There are no interface for desktop, programs, the screen is empty.I use Task manager to navigate. All programs and files are safe,in their places.Someone knows how to restore the windows explorer without reinstall ?

Not much help, but since you have restored Explorer.exe from the CD, it probably is a problem with one of Explorer's DLL files and not a problem with Explorer itself.
I wonder if the following would work. If you can somehow get to Add/Remove programs. You could try uninstalling & reinstalling IE. It installs several of the DLL files used by both it and Explorer.

There may be something in there to help you...good luck
Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

Check the registry key, "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Shell", and make sure its value reads, "explorer.exe"

Hello everybody, I post back just to let you know I couldn't fix the windows explorer problem(it disappeared after a virus). I formatted/reinstalled the XP.
First I thought it is an easy job, but I've realised the classic methods are just for less difficult issues.
I am dissapointed the SFC didn't do his job, neither the "XP CD repair"
One day I will be Network Admin/Engineer and we supose to fix a server(win2003 server) without intrerruption/restart.How can I trust Microsoft !?
Thank you for the kind answers max00
,XpUser4Real and Razor2.3.Have a nice day. Petrumusic
