Help! Windows Explorer just started closing
whenever I access certain folders containing digital media. Then Dr. Watson Postmortem Script Debugger closes also, with Dr. Watson
running my CPU usage way up until I end its
process in Task Manager. I should also mention that my system locks up when Explorer
closes, and I have to push CTRL + ALT + DEL
to get to Task Manager to regain access to my
desktop.Here is the Error Signature:
AppName: explorer.exe
AppVer: 6.0.2900.3156
ModName: qasf.dll
ModVer: 10.0.0.3646
Offset: 00001816fI unchecked DEP for Windows Explorer, to no
avail. AV and Spyware Scans indicate no malware. -Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as this is a bad problem!

rwiz, Windows Explorer is a common target of all sorts of nasties. My best thought would be to switch browsers to something like Firefox, Opera, etc. and get away from IE altogether.
If you don't wanna do that, my next approach would be to assume you've been infected by a Trojan and need to clean it. Be aware that a virus and a Trojan are similar, but not the same. Many times, an AV detects one it can't clean , other times, it gets missed entirely.
If you need to clean one, Superantispyware can do the job and you can get it free @:
http://www.superantispyware.com/
among other places. They have a Vista compatible version if needed.
If it turns out that you need to use it, be sure to update prior to running and disable 'restore' so it doesn't get put back. They just released a new update recently and it changes all the time. Things are in a constant state of flux.
My last thought (i'd save for a last resort) is that the damage has already been done and you have permanent file corruption. Maybe delete Explorer and re-install?
HTH.
Ed in Texas.

This sounds very similar to something I had. It wasn't any nasty stuff either!
Does this happen when the folder is opened and you hover the pointer over the file? When I hover the pointer over the file I get a small window open telling you details about the file. Does the crash occur just before that pop up opens?
At the time I had the 'View' set to show Thumbnails, when I changed this to 'List', the problem stopped. Strange thing though because I later set the view back to thumbnails and the problem didn't reappear!Computers... designed to entertain, help with work but most of all to frustrate you!

Bazzab--
I followed your suggestion to set Folder Options to "View" and my Windows Explorer problem vanished. Thanks so much! -Makes no sense at all, but then neither does any
M$ product.Cheers/rwiz
