Windows Explorer - Behavior change

I've been running XP for a long time and have never seen this. When viewing files in "detail"
Instead of seeing this:
Afile.dat Afile1.dat Bfile.dat Bfile1.dat
I see this:
A ------------------------ Afile.dat Afile1.dat
B --------------------------- Bfile.dat Bfile1.dat
How did this happen and how do I hurn it off?
