Hi everyone,

I've been facing following problem: when trying to type a path into the address bar of windows exporer (not Internet Explorer), my entry is cleared and subsituted by the current file. It seems as if WinExp is refreshing at random yet small time intervals. Thus, I'm not able to enter the path I wish.
My search so far has identified several potential reasons:
- network location awareness (NLA) service could lead to automatic refreshment
- an older post mentioned some "evil" vpn software :-P
- another thread suggested trying a windows security update to solve the problem
- yet another thread was full of experiments with the registry (you may access windows' registry by running regedit)

However, none of the above lead to any solution. Did any of you experience similar problems with windows explorer?

Hi again,

I've tried the following approach to identify the problem: I have killed one process after another from the task manager and checked, whether the behaviour of windows explorer. After killing three or four processes I finally identified the root of all evil: in my case, it seems that mswinext.exe has been causing the refreshing problem. The app is part of the MSN toolbar (also check this link Although I'm not using MSN, the MSN toolbar file was under my programme files. I removed the whole file and am happy ever after :-P

Hope you will find my experience valuable in some way. Please post your experience with the specific WinExp problem!
