My Computer, Documents, Pictures, The Control Panel, along with Internet explorer will not open. When I click on any of these shortcuts, my desktop icons, toolbar and start menu disappear for a matter of seconds, and then they come back. I didn't receive any error messages, I did an adware, spyware, and virus scan....nothing. I tried running C;/ from run, and it did the same thing. I tried doing a system restore more than once....nothing. I tried starting in safe mode, and everything works...but...what can I do in safe mode to correct the problem, I don't know what is wrong. I was just going to reinstall windows, but, it was preinstalled on my toshiba notebook, so that is out of the question. Can anyone help or add any insight to my neverending issue?

Not sure I understand why you can't reinstall if it was preinstalled. If your saying you don't have the installation CD, GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did you go into device manager and see if there are any driver conflicts?

Right click my computer, properties, hardware, and you will see a button for device manager. When selected, ensure there are no exclamation marks and yellow triangle.
Where did you get the computer to not get an installation CD?

Seen a couple of these already today, wonder if there is a new virus lurking....Gaobot perhaps? Don't know but suggest updating virus defs and rescanning hard drive.

Thanks angryman:) I checked, and there were no exclamations as you had described. I am not at all sure why there isn't any windows cd....but i went out to the store to buy one, and the package costs 300.00!!!! so that is totally out of the cards for me right now.

Recently while viewing MP3 servers a program downloaded onto my computer without me knowing so. A popup bar (allaboutsearching.com/passthrough/popupbarop.) now appears at the bottom of my screen when I connect to Internet Explorer. I've tried to remove it and the cookies related from my computer, but with each reconnection to Explorer, the cookies and bar are replaced onto my computer. Plus, since its appearance on my computer, I have lost rundll32.exe and when I try to turn off my computer, it spins and alerts that rundll32.exe is not responding. So, I have to exit and manually to shut down the computer. How do I fix rundll32.exe and how do I get allaboutsearching off my computer?

Hey quade,
When you buy a computer (unless this is used) they supply you with an operating system (or in HP's case a recovery disc which contains the OS). You should not have to buy it. And if you do hace to buy it, get an OEM for around $100 (full version). The difference is that MS will not support an OEM until you give them $$$. I ask you this, How many times have you called MS for a support question?

I'm having the same problem - a virus or something that disables IE, Windows Explorer, Search, Control Panel, etc. All will work in Safe Mode. Quade, what did you do to fix it?

try this...right click on internet explorer and choose properties. Click on the advanced tab and uncheck "Enable third party browser extensions". Click OK..see if IE will now open
