Subject: Windows error...won't boot up..CRAS
OS: Win xp sp2
CPU/Ram: Pent M
Model/Manufacturer: Dell Latitude D600
Comment:

My laptop Dell Latitude D600 won't boot up. Instead I got this error:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
Tech Info: *** Stop:0x00000050 (0xc082280f,0x00000000,0x805557b3,0x00000002)

No matter what key I hit it ( Safe Mode,Safe Mode with networking, etc.) always goes back to that blue screen. What happened? I bought this from Ebay and have my Winxp sp2 disc with it.

nettie,

Since you bought it from ebay and have the installation disk with you, I would suggest to go for a fresh installation (since you have no worries about data backup etc.)

If you want to do troubleshooting for learning experience, go for it. But, experience shows that these situations require a FRESH INSTALLATION in the end :)

Good luck.

Trying to use the disc doesn't help. Won't start the disk.

When the machine first starts up, you should see (for a moment) in the upper-right-hand corner the option to enter setup (Probably F2) or F12 to start from CD or get a boot menu. Press F12. If you are prompted to select an option, select boot from CD. If you get the line "press any key to boot from CD" just press the space bar.

If it's a Dell Reinstallation CD, you will have a wizard come up that will help you with the reinstall. If asked, you want to setup Windows, not repair.

BSOD error message with Stop:0x00000050 generally meant you have faulty RAMS as indicated by this MSKB. As long as you do not address the issue, XP cannot be properly installed.
