I have this strange problem, when I open DOS and run the command 'netstat' it closes. No errors or anything, the window just closes right after the command.
I'm able to run all other commands..
Also dunno if this has anything to do with it, but when I go to Start>Run and type in 'cmd' it says
"C:\WINDOWS\System32\cmd.com
The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction"Only way I can run DOS is by typing out 'command'
Anyone know why I can't run this command? I'd like to know why it won't work 'cause I like using netstat to see what's connected to my computer.

The Command Prompt is at Start>All Programs>Accessories.
What happens if you click that, instead of opening it in RUN Command ??

If I run the command prompt from Programs>Accessories and type in 'netstat', the window doesn't close, and there's no errors, but the command doesn't run..
I'm still able to use all other commands, just not netstatI don't have any viruses or spy/adware,
Is there a way to reinstall / redownload the files for MSDOS?

I might not be able to figure this out,
Does anyone know any programs I can download that act like netstat? Some prog that can let me see what IP's/Ports my computer is connected to?
Thanks

...type in 'netstat', the window doesn't close, and there's no errors, but the command doesn't run...
When I type netstat, some data comes up within the Command Prompt. I do not get "window doesn't close", as you say.

Maybe this will fix something--
Try System File Checker:
Open the Command Prompt, then type:sfc /scannow
note space between the c and /
Have XP CD in your drive.

Here is some more info that may be of some interest--How to determine which program uses or blocks specific transmission control protocol ports in Windows

Also I meant to say--
Maybe netstat will not work if one or more XP Services is not having its Default setting.Maybe you disabled some Service at one time ??

i remember in NT 4.0 SP3 had this problem, it was due to an ourdated version of command.com and was fixed by replacing the command.com file with a different one, try getting the file off another computer, netstat and cmd.exe, or off the OS CD. also try opening the run box and type this:
cmd /k netstat and hit enter and see
is netstat the only command that wont run, or is there a pattern in commands, such as networking commands etc
