Specs: Windows XP

I cannot boot up windows defender offline tool from either usb, dvd or cd. In each case WDO confirmed media was successfully made.Bios was changed to boot for all three media. F2 for dvd & CD and F12 for usb. In all cases a black screen with a blue MS logo showed up but then asked for a restart by powering down. Only the CD actually began spinning when powering up PC.Anti-virus & firewall both turned off. XP professional SP3 on a Dell GX270.

The general problem associated with that error message is that the computer does not meet the requirements to run windows defender offline.

According to the Microsoft forum's post here windows defender offline requires your CPU to support SSE2, PAE and NX.

Unfortunately, looking at the specs on the DELL website, your computer will either use a celeron or a pentium 4 CPU. Although there were some models of Pentium 4 that supported the NX bit, they were not too common.

If you want to find out for sure if your computer supports the NX bit, you can download cpu-z. If you post the CPU name/model number here we can pull up the specs for you and find out if it supports the NX bit.

FYI some intel documentation may refer to NX as XD, which was it's former name.

Does the PC boot successfully with other media, or is it just the windows defender offline tool?

And does the windows defender disk/flash drive boot on other machines?

Thanks for the response. The CD media doesn't work on three different machines all with similar security settings. I tried my Boot disc for Acronis and this opened immediately. The only difference, with bios set for cd-rom as primary boot, was acronis booted immediately whilst WDOT boot first asked me to hit any key to boot from CD/DVD

I cannot seem to find any links on the windows defender site that match your problem...
Have you tried re-downloading the iso and then burning it?

Also, is there any error codes provided when it asks you to reboot, or would it be possible to have a word for word copy of the error message?
