I've had to uninstall it because the update shield keeps reappearing offering the same update

Why are you still running beta version (KB15597)? Uninstall it and get the latest production version HERE. BTW The beta version has expired December 31st.

broxibearz: Go to the website below and download this latest version. But, before you install it, I am curious how do you delete the original install? Besides the normal Control Panel Add & Remove programs removal, do you go into Windows Explore and delete all remnants of the original install? Also, do you check the Registry for additional entries of Windows Defender? If you are not familiar with the Registry, then don't mess with it. Do the rest and then try installing this new version.

then i use CCleaner
Systweak System Cleaner (which includes reg cleaner & fix)
RegSeaker
Microsoft RegClean
WinCleaner One Click Cleaner
then just to make sure
Evidence Eliminater

but when i try to install it again i'm still getting the same error code& can't update message

Broxibearz: I found the following on the Microsoft forum. See if this helps you.

Navigate to C:\program files\windows defender and delete MpAsDesc.dll

After you delete that file, try that update again.
