Windows could not start

Specs: Windows XP SP3, 1.00GB
Hi, i am using windows XP.
This morning when I turn on my laptop, I've got this message:

"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

Last night my laptop is being used by my nephew, so I don't know exactly what the hell is he doing with my laptop (i mean, install games, application or doing hardware changes, etc).

I already surf for any information about this problem and I guess the article I found here:

is useful and of course helpful.
But, the problem is I don't have the original XP CD.
I also don't have a CD-ROM (cd driver) since I am using laptop nor external CD-ROM.
By any chances, can I repair it without using original cd nor CD-ROM? If it possible, can some one give the instruction on how to repair it.
