Comment:

when i started my laptop, it failed. it says system/config missing or corrupt.
i inserted the win xp cd-rom and started the recovery console(i have full admin privileges).
i followed the solution here (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545) but when i tried to copy the system32\config\system to tmp\system.bak it says "file not found". i continued to copy the other files and then copy files from repair folder to the original files. i stopped from there since i cannot find a snapshot folder.
then i restarted windows. it seemed like it went to the previous restore point since some old files reappeared. but everytime i clicked on something, it always says "intel PRO: resources not available".
now i want to move all my files to another storage before i reinstall the system.
i took the hard drive out and connected to another system w/ an ext enclosure but now that i want to access my documents, it says access denied.
i tried to give full privileges to everyone, including administrator and my account, but i still cant access my docs.
Explorer thinks the directory is empty but when i tried to backup the files i knew that the files stil exist.
Can anyone recommend me a solution?

You need to take ownership of the files in order to access them to copy to another drive.

Life's more painless for the brainless.
