Casey, If you're saying that can't open any programs (.exe files) go to the link below, click on "Win XP Fixes", click on "File Association Fixes", an download & run the "EXE File Association Fix". The instructions are on the page.

I have exactly the same problem at this verry moment. I was just able to remove the W32.Swen.A@mm from my system with norton anti virus, but now none of all my exe files are working. Or i get the error windows XP cannot find the file or for system settings it can't find the Rundll32.exe file while these are on my system.

I recall this problem because I had it before with the SirCam virus and was able to fix it with a special patch. Now I tried this patch again, but it is a .exe file so I can't run it.

Now I tried this EXE File Association FIX, but windows says I do not have permission to change the registery while I am the only user of this PC and so on the Administrator!

Functions like regedit.exe, and msconfig arn't working either. What I did found out is that if i click for example a word document in my computer the programme word starts without any problems, but if i try to run the word programme file directly I get the error windows isn't able to find it. This means my programmes are undamaged.

What I also tried is to copy the regedit.exe file and rename it as a regedit.com file. But when I try to open the com file windows tells me it can't find ngfzgz.exe

can anyone please help me.
regards,
HansOlo

I have been trying to do the Symantic fixing process a dozen of times. But when I try adding the repair.reg key. My comp gives the error message :"Modifying of the registery has been turned off by the system administrator. " This is odd because I am the administrator and I nowhere changed any settings. Anyone knows where to alter this?

ps... I was able to remove the virus from the computer by right clicking on my drives in My computer and start Scanning with Norton Antivirus. The virus is in quarantaine now, but I can't empty the qarantine bin because my comp still says it can't find any exe files.

Yo wazzup.

Just had the same prob, took me a while to figure it out but it's actually pretty easy:
Download the Symantex thingy and put it on ur C: drive (so you won't have to type a whole story of a path)
Then reboot and press F8 to get into boot menu. Choose Safe mode to command prompt.
Then type C:/IforgotthenameoftheSymantec tool.exe
Voila, everything cool again.

Cheers,
Rogie

I had the same problem. To fix it I downloaded the FixSwen.exe from symantec's site, but it won't open. To run it, Right click the file and hit Rus As, turn off the "protect my computer and data from unauthorized program activity". Now double click the file and it'll open just fine. Run the tool and it'll fix the windows problem.
