Windows cannot find rundll32.exe

Comment:
I recently got an e-mail virus -Nimda. I removed the infected files using McAfee Virus Scan and corrected the registry entries as instructed. I still cannot open any exe. files. I cannot run system restore successfully (even in safe mode)-it runs and re-starts but never gives the "your system was successfully restored" message. At re-start a message window appears " windows cannot find rundll32.exe". The rundll32.exe file is in the c\windows\system32 folder but the file icon is a plain gray page -the only one like it. I would use system restore if it would work. Any ideas?

Try to copy every rundll32.* out of the WinXP CD or *.cab Files.
Maybe the virus has destroyed it. Other idea is to install WinXP on top of yours. This should fix your problem, but I found out, that it will crash later on, too.
Just be shure, that every file you delete because of Nimda is replaced by a copie from the CD.
You can do the copy in Command-Promt, but I think you have to extract the files. Everythink you need is on the CD.
